statue carving sculpture, hindu god statues, crafts of kerala, hyderabad crafts, awarded crafts, handicrafts interiors, vastu interior. The hand-carved statue of Kalinga Krishna is a stunningly beautiful depiction of the leela called Kalinga-Nardan. Young Lord Krishna is seen here defeating the dreaded serpent king, Kalinga (Kalia).
Kalinga, the poisonous naga had occupied and poisoned the river Yamuna and its surrounding banks causing grave distress to the cowherds and the flora and fauna of Vrindavan. On hearing their plight, young Krishna jumped into the river and overpowered the vile serpent King. The statue depicts Kalinga’s wives with folded hands, entreating with the Lord to spare their husband. Merciful that he was, Krishna spared Kalinga and banished him from the shores of Yamuna forever.
This stunning figurine is a celebration of Good triumphing over evil and is crafted from the finest whitewood by expert craftsmen. The sheer mastery of the sculptor is seen in the fabulous filigree work and the delicate jewellery, which is derived from an ancient Indian temple art form, known to few. It is a glorious representation of classical Indian Handicrafts and is truly a work of art worth possessing.
