Description : Sandalwood Dasa Avatara ,sandalwood sculptures, sandalwood articles.

kerala wood carvings, sandalwood, hand made products, hand amde articles, hand made items. The ten exquisite figurines of the Dasa Avatara are sculpted from the finest sandalwood by expert artisans. The craftsmanship is seen in the elegant design and the expressive features that seem to come alive on the rich gold sandalwood, mounted aesthetically on a solid layered pedestal of pure rosewood.

The Dasavatara refers to the ‘dasa” (ten) ‘ avatar’ (incarnations) of Lord Vishnu. The Dashavatara is not just an exotic mythological story. It is a metaphorical representation of the scientific facts of human evolution in an artistic form.

The first statue is Matsya, the fish that symbolises the first life that originated in the sea. The second is Kurma, the tortoise when creatures could live both in sea and on land. Varaha, the boar is the 3rd avatara symbolising a land creature while the Narasimha (man-lion) avatar symbolises the transition from animal to human. The fifth avatar is Vamana, the dwarf who represents the very first human with characteristics similar to the Neandarthal man. The primitive man who was wild in nature is symbolised by the Parashurama avatar, depicting a man with an axe.

The 7th Avatar is Lord Rama who symbolises a man who ruled other men. Balarama, the 8th avatar was an agriculturist human. Lord Krishna, the 9th Avatar was a people's person who was incarnated on earth to establish the religion of Love and Brotherhood and vanquish evil. The tenth is the Kalki-avatara, predicted to appear in some 427,000 years time to liberate the virtuous and initiate a new Satya Yuga.

Care: Keep indoors. Lightly dust the figurine as required. We recommend the use of a mild wood cleaner on a swab of cotton wool.
