Venkateshwara is one of the manifestations of Lord Vishnu, who at the request of sage Narada, settled in Tirumala for the salvation and upliftment of humanity. Venkatachalapati or Balaji, the presiding deity of the Tirumala Hills, in Andhra Pradesh, India is known as the Lord of the seven hills.

The Lord is portrayed standing majestically in the Prabhavali, the exquisite Arch depicting creation, preservation and fiery dissolution with a fierce representation of Mahakala, the God of Time at the centre. The exquisitely ornate arch features delicate carvings of other gods and goddesses. The statue portrays the Lord holding a discus (a symbol of power) and a conch shell (a symbol of existence). With his Abhaya Hasta (Auspicious Hand) he protects his worshippers and helps one get rid of all worldly pain, misery and worries.
