Narasimha is often visualized as one who takes the form of half-man/half-lion, having a human-like torso and a lower body, but with a lion-like face and claws. He is shown here sitting majestically within the exquisite Prabhavali holding a discus and a conch, two symbols associated with Vishnu. The exquisite arch symbolises creation, preservation and fiery dissolution and features a fierce representation of Mahakala, the God of Time in the centre. The conch represents “Om”, the first sound of creation. The discus is said to represent the sun. Narasimha is primarily revered as the 'Great Protector', being a form of Vishnu, who specifically defends and protects his devotees in times of need.
