His right arm is shown extended downwards, with the open palm turned to the front and the fingers extended. This 'mudra’ is usually associated with the standing Buddha and signifies that the Buddha is granting/ receiving charitable offerings. The left hand holds an unopened lotus, symbolising the fact that the heart of all beings is like an unopened lotus and only when the virtues of the Buddha develop therein does the lotus blossom.
