Description : Rosewood Ambari dasara wall panel
The magnificent Mysore Dasara procession is the theme of this striking rosewood wall panel. On Vijayadashami, the tenth day of the beautiful Indian festival of Dussehra, the traditional Dasara procession (locally known as Jumboo Savari) is taken out on the streets of Mysore city and is a prime tourist attraction especially for foreigners and out-of-towners.
The Dasara procession is a wonder to behold with colourful tableaux, folk dances, ceremonially dressed soldiers, music bands, decorated elephants, handsomely adorned horses and camels. The chief attraction is the beautiful idol of the Goddess Chamundeshwari which is placed on a golden palanquin atop a decorated elephant, the Ambari elephant.
The world famous Mysore Dasara is synonymous with elephants. Of the dozen-odd elephants which take part in the Dasara procession, the focus is on the Ambari elephant. He is the star attraction and cynosure of all eyes as he arrives for the grand finale to the festival. His selection goes through a rigorous process and he has to fulfil certain criteria to qualify himself for the honour of carrying the 750 kg Golden Howdah. The richly caparisoned ambari elephant walks with great dignity and majesty as lakhs of spectators line the three-km procession route starting from the palace up to Bannimantap.
This striking wall scenery is a lovely objet d'art that has been sculpted from the finest rosewood by deft artisans. The delicately etched saddles are covered with traditional alpana motifs. Ornamental inlay work involves superb craftsmanship wherein pieces of different coloured woods are artistically wedged into the design. The white inlaid wood contrasts strikingly with the rich earthy and rustic tones of reds, browns and yellows to give a three-dimensional effect. The Dasara tableau is an elaborate work of art and makes a wonderful home décor accessory and is ideal for corporate gifts and special occasions.
Care: Keep indoors. Lightly dust the figurine as required. We recommend the use of a mild wood cleaner on a swab of cotton wool.
